Ernestine Titus
Librarian
Our Library works closely with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries on many of its wonderful and creative activities, including an Interlibrary Loan program. In this way, if we do not have a particular book or item of information desired by a patron, we will send out an inquiry to all other participating public libraries in Oklahoma. If they have it, they mail it to us for our patron's use. In this way, everyone has the resources of All libraries at their command. To learn more about the various programs and activities developed and sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries, visit their web site at www.odl.state.ok.us

Fairview City Library Acquires Latest Digital Technology Equipment

The new Novatec ScanPro 1000 is now in use at the Fairview City Library to access historical information.  The first user of the new system was volunteer technical staffer George Williams who used the ScanPro 1000 to look up and digitally enhance the only picture of him as a baby being held by his father in the September 23, 1982 edition of The Fairview Republican that is on micro-film.  The library's collection includes microfilm rolls of yesteryear papers such as Ames Ledger, Ames Review, Ames Home News, Ames News, Ringwood Recorder, and Ringwood Times going back to the early 1900's.  Additional micro-film archives include Census for Major, Murray, Woods, Woodward, and McIntosh Counties. There are also Oklahoma Territory Indian Reservation, Indian Military and Naval records.  An extensive collection of easy to look up obituaries on file rounds out the archive.

Ernestine Titus, Library Director, said, "The Novatec of ScanPro 1000 of Tulsa is the result of a two year goal to make the microfilm in the historical archives digitally available to library patrons.  The $8,400.00 microfilm scanner connects to a PC and users are now able to scan microfilm articles in one second to the hard drive, pin drive, email, or printer. This will enable us to more efficiently fulfill the many out of state genealogists' requests as well as those of local researchers. The ScanPro 1000 can enhance images of newspaper print of poor quality due to age or other factors. A 24” monitor that swivels is attached to the Scan-Pro to make reading of micro-film more comfortable for the eyes. The ScanPro 1000 was purchased with 2008 State Aid Funds awarded to the Fairview City Library.  In order to receive State Aid funding the Fairview City Library had to meet certain criteria such as services and programs that are offered, number of hours they are opened, etc. The Fairview City Library has also added
Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest genealogy online research programs to their genealogy services.
